Rachel
(a sculpture in the garden of Ramat Rachel Hotel)

Rachel, created by sculptor David Polus

David Polus (1893-1975), a sculptor, who immigrated as a halutz during the Third Aliyah, created the sculpture "Rachel".
The biblical mother Rachel personifies the nation (Jeremiah 31:15-16):
In accord with the prophecy of Jeremiah, Rachel is a woman of large proportions, protecting two children and surveying the horizon as though waiting for others:

Thus says the LORD,
"A voice is heard in Ramah,
Lamentation and bitter weeping
Rachel is weeping for her children;
She refuses to be comforted for her children,
Because they are no more."

Thus says the LORD,
"Restrain your voice from weeping
And your eyes from tears;
For your work will be rewarded," declares the LORD,
And they will return from the land of the enemy".

Directions: Ramat Rachel is 4 km south of the Old City of Jerusalem-half way to Bethlehem.
