In the centre of Nazareth you will find a historical, traditional and folkloric site, the Galilee Mill “Elbabour”. The nickname Elbabour is derived from the English word “Vapor” or fug, because a century ago most of the mills used to operate on steam (vapor) , from there the Arabic word Babour.
The Galilee Mill “Elbabour” is situated in a remarkable building, which makes it beautiful and attractive, as well as merits to be visited.
You still can find the ancient traditional tools and instruments, the old Mills and machines, moreover, a wheat Mill dated a 100 years back.
The mill was originally founded by Mr. Wicker, a German in the end of the Turkish rule and in the beginning of the 20th century Mr. Jarjoura Kanaza rented the place. Since then its administration and management is in hands of the Kanaza family.
There are more than 1000 kinds of products in the Galilee Mill “Elbabour”, like all kinds of Coffee, Cardamom, Spices, Herbs, Oil (Aromatic and Medical), Seeds, Grains and Crops, Tea, Dried Fruits, Incense, Nuts and…Hand Made Treacle Carob. Too many to mention!
Whenever you are in Nazareth, don’t forget to visit and … to smell Galilee Mill “Elbabour”.
It’s worth seeing. Tony Kanaza, the manager made this visit remarkable. Thanks!
